ESSAY: ENDING OF RUS104

To be honest, I don't really feel that this subject help much for a Construction Management student at first.

The first project, it forced me to pick up the skill of drawings, sketchings, colourings.
Slowly, I've begun to have some interest in sketching.

The 2nd project, especially the sketching of natural object really brush up my sketching skill. Bit by bit, and through lectures, my sketching has been improving, although it's not much, it's still an improvement.

Start from the 3rd project, the comfortable chair, we need to cooperate with each other. Managing our time and project, this is an essential part, especially important to us. In my opinion, what is more important to us was not the result nor the design, it was the cooperation between us. As a group, a team, we must cooperate and tolerate in order to make our project finish and success.

Again, we need drawings and colourings again. For project 4 and 5, I've been try my very best to complete this work. Well, at last, it has to be done right? And so I've done it, with my best effort.

Project 6 was the hardest part in my RUS104 studio.
As a CM student, I've volunteered myself to manage the report.
The whole progress of typing and doing this report really benefits me.
From the simple reporting up until the time management, the charts, I've learnt up all these in this project.

And through the leadership of my group leaders, I've seen what qualities I need to have in order to lead a team.

For the last 2 project, these were the projects that needed all, full cooperation from the CM students.
Any one missing means additional works for others, and if anyone was left out, the others have to stay up late, or even overnight.
From these, I've know that we must not depends on others at all times. We must be independent but cooperative. Unless we're in a desperate state, we shall not simply wait for the others.

The performance, project 8, really strengthen the bonds of the Construction Management family.
Every discussion, every training, every rehearsal, I can feel their efforts, their intention to make this performance an unforgettable one for the audience.
And YES, we've succeeded. We've put up a great show, a best show!

LANGKAWI FIELD TRIP 2013

Well, when I heard that the destination of our field trip will be Langkawi, I was so worried.
As the trip won't be cheap.

But, with the efforts of our lecturers, the fees has been as low as RM195, still pricey, but affordable.

The events organized was so much fun.
From telematch games, island hopping, barbeque, everything was very very exciting.

I'm very appreciate every moment I've spent with all my friends at there.
These was priceless moment, an unforgettable memories to be hold dearly, deep down inside my heart.
As this trip really bring us together, much closer, despite our majors are different, we see each other as the same, we treat each other as one, as one big family.

We are HBP students from USM.

Well, no doubt this is the landmark of Langkawi island.
A beautiful structure created by mankind, the people in Langkawi must be proud of this amazing structure.

Taken even further from the landmark, this view is also very beautiful.

The sunlight, the beach, this is one of the nice scenery at the island.

Well, to be honest, I'm very eager to try one of these paragliding stuff, but this, would seriously make my wallet bleed.

To be amazed by the God's creation, the mountains somehow assembled the body of a women.

Sitting on the boat while island hopping was a comfortable and nice experience.
Viewing these nice views from the boat made me felt calm.

From the cable car, it can be seen that there is a waterfall running down from the mountain.
Heard that the bottom of the waterfall is a nice and beautiful spot, but pitifully, we don't have the chance to get there this time.

Well, everything has an END. So do this trip.

PROJECT 8: LIVE PERFORMANCE

Everything has an END, so do our 1st sem, our 1st Studio - RUS104.

To end this RUS104, we've been assigned our last project, to perform, LIVE, at DKD, at 20 DECEMBER 2013.

The main theme, was the LOST KINGDOMS.

Among all those long lost forgone KINGDOMS, we, the CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT has been assigned the DEMAK SULTANATE.

And for the performance we choose was DANCING and a short DRAMA based on the history of the DOWNFALL OF DEMAK.

Other than us, all of the majors in HBP really put up a great, super great shows. Each of it has it own uniqueness.

The dancing was great, and one of our dancer-- NURUL AMIRAH has been nominated as the best dancer, well, a DANCING QUEEN in CM, isn't it a good news to be heard?

Apart from that, there is a greater show that we put on in the performance night. The drama, with the title "DOWNFALL OF DEMAK".

With some modifications, we've made it a fantastically great show!
Full with surprise, and laughter, this is what we wanted, a show that will make everyone remember us, the CM!

And with this great show, our actor in the drama, which act as the bad guy, ARYA PENANGSANG in the drama, TING MING KAI, has nominated as the BEST ACTOR in this live performance.

Indeed another great news comes to us right?

When our friends has been nominated, all the crowds, all the students, not even CM students, we, the HBP PEOPLE of RUS104 batch 2013, shouted happily. At this moment, everyone was happy.

About 12.30am, this show has ended, fabulously.

--THE END--

PROJECT 7: EXHIBITION

The theme for this project was FLOATING LINES. Quite an interesting yet abstract theme wasn't it?

Well, first, things we needed for this project was some threads.
A banner, big enough to show that which the booth was belong to the Construction Management's students.

Just as below.

As for the design of the exhibition board, we use a few long needles to pin the drawings.
To make things even more aesthetic, we decided to pull out the drawings, hang by those needles, this creating a perfect positions for the drawings.
And this design make those drawings looks like it was FLOATING, as stipulated in the theme.

To make things more unique, we have use the drawings to make a triangular shape or rectangular shape box.
Other than sculptures, we have some drawings which is uniquely arranged on the table.

Pictures above shows the position of our booth, on the left in this picture, was the CM booth.
With all the efforts, we're ready for all those peoples who are coming to our booth.

WELCOME TO THE DRUM.

PROJECT 6: AN AMPHITHEATRE STAGE

By far, this is the toughest project we've done in RUS 104.

From the start till the end, this is the project that need the full commitment of everyone. Without a good cooperation by all, I'm doubting whether we can achieve the success for this project.

There are 3 parts to be done in this PROJECT 6, 1st, the presentation drawings, 2nd, the report: weekly and final report, and last, the CONSTRUCTION of the scale model of our stage.

Before anything was start, our group have been divided into several groups to make our aim and working scope more precise.

As mentioned above, we're divided into 3 teams: the DESIGN TEAM, REPORT & RESEARCH TEAM, COSTING TEAM.

Through the great coordination and leadership by our lady boss --- Mandy, we manage to finish each part of our job on time, well, most of it.

Now back to the design of the stage.
The original concept that we decided to choose was the TRISHAW which can represent PULAU PINANG. Due to certain reasons, this concept was turned down. And so, we have to rise up again with a brand new concept.
At last, the concept that was picked by our design team was the WAVE. The concept was meant to create an amphitheatre which can brings man and nature closer to each other.

From conducting a site analysis, researching, until the construction of scale model, everything was done with the best effort of our team, especially the design team who've taken up the most tiring part. Thanks to them, we've come up with a special and aesthetically beautiful yet elegant design.

This is it, the presentation drawings.

With all those sleepless nights, hereby I present this, the presentation drawings of our AMPHITHEATRE STAGE -- THE WAVE.

After having a look at our design, I'm sure you who are reading my blog can't wait to see more of it right? Yes, and now, have a look at our best effort, the scale model of THE WAVE!

This is the back.

And of course the front view.

Beautiful, isn't it?

This is what make us proud.
This is our team, group 6, THE BASTIDORES, which means WINGS in Spanish.
WE ARE MEANT TO -- AIM HIGH, FLY HIGH, AS SKY IS OUR LIMIT.

PROJECT 5: SENSE OF PLACE: NEIGHBOURHOOD & COMMUNITY

A site-visiting.
Never expect that we will be doing this on the second month of our HBP life.

With last project clashing with this, so this one was done very fast, sleepless nights, studio life.
Every one was working hard in the studio, regardless of how many hours of sleep you can get.

We've been given 6 site to choose as our subject.
The site I chose was the SIARA 81 located at SG. ARA, and that's just beside another site, which is SETIA GREEN.

After some inspection and walking around the area, we found out a few improvements that can be made: cyclist pathway, public phone, recycle bin, and a few others facilities can be added to improve the area.

And after many hours of working in the studio and my room, I've finally produce two piece of drawings, which is when I finish this 2 projects.

PROJECT 5A: NEIGHBOURHOOD ELEMENTS: EXISTING CONDITION

PROJECT 5B: NEIGHBOURHOOD ELEMENTS: PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT

PROJECT 4: PRESENTATION DRAWINGS

Okay, projects keep coming non-stop!! Have to get use to this life soon or I'll be the one who will be suffered.

This time, the project that have been given to us was related to the last project.

And complexity of project 3 (b) means difficulty for this project, as each of us need to produce presentation drawings of our L-shaped chair.

With help and advice of course mates, I've been able to finish my drawings, 2 pieces of them.

Below is the plans and elevations of my project 4.

Hereby I present my axonometric(isometric, left diagram) and perspective(one point perspective) drawings of my project.

PROJECT 3(B): OBJECTS CONNECTION: A ComforTABLE CHAIR

For this time, we've been divided into groups of 3 or 4. And my group consist of 4 members including me.

We've been assigned to produce a CHAIR, a L-Shaped chair that is connected with a table.

No doubt the projects assigned to us has a theme, and the theme that've been given by our lecturers is UNITY. A furniture that would represent UNITY, quite a challenge for a non-design student who doesn't have basic on arts.

But still, with our efforts, the project was done and this is the product.

The main part of this product are focused on the table. For the theme Unity, it's like the fence-like structure on the table. All of those sticks represents different races and ethnics in our country, to maintain the structure as well as the furniture, every stick or every ethnics must stand together, that's means, UNITE.

PROJET 3(A) : FREE-FORM MODEL

Hello every one~ It's me again~

Well, just back from the pimpin siswa camp, for me, it's not that exciting because our activities is quite, you know --- BORING ~~

Okay, now let us back to the topic. Let's talk about my work this time. We've been given a theme, that's HARMONY~~

Tadah~~~~ Have a look at my piece of work, I've put quite some effort to think about the concept of this model. And with some advice from my friends, this sculpture is born.

For this art sculpture I made, actually the inspiration is simple, I'm started to feel a little bit homesick and miss my families.
As for my concept, it's the LOVE that exist in a family. As a family, we're connected and bond to each other. And this whole sculpture, the two human which represents parent and children, husband and wife, or two siblings, are all connected (except for the head). This inspiration come from a thought of mine, which is as a family, we're all for one, and one for all, we must be united and loving for each other to create the HARMONY in the home.

As we've been advised to use recyclable materials, so I've only use two types of things to give born to my art work. 1st is old newspaper, 2nd is aluminium foil. The inside of the sculpture is those old newspaper, to make it into this shape, I've wrapped up those papers in order to shape it. I choose not to spray some colour onto my sculpture because those spray will pollute the environment, which is not advisable in this theme given, HARMONY, which also means that we must create a HARMONY environment with our mother nature.

PROJECT 2: NATURAL & MAN-MADE STRUCTURES

Project 2A: Natural Structure

Jeng~~~~
Yes, you all will know what is this, it's the favourite food for pandas --> BAMBOO

The reason why I choose this as my natural structure? It's because these bamboos provide a feeling of tranquility and serenity, it makes me feel more comfortable and peace.

I found this just in front of my faculty --> the school of HBP.
There are a few more bamboos around our school, feel free to check it out when you feel like to have a stroll around USM campus :).

And now, have a look at my finished project 2A.

PROJECT 2B: MAN-MADE STRUCTURE

Well, the object I chose is the "WAKAF" (not the mosque).
As you all may know about it, this is located just before the Sungai Dua Entrance of USM main campus.
This wakaf is just nice for people who seek to have a rest after their praying session at the mosque.

And below, it's my piece of art on the wakaf, and this is my very, very, VERY first attempt to colour something using water colour since Form 3 in my secondary school. At first, I was so afraid that I will ruin the whole thing, but luckily, nothing really bad happened during the colouring process.

And now, it's THE END for the project 2.
THANK YOU.

PROJECT 1(A) : STEWARDSHIP

Hello~

This project is about ---> Myself.
Not really many things to talk about. Just a usual Malaccan, born in a family of 5.
I live with my parents, and a older brother and older sister.
Hmm.... Oh yea, I like to play basketball and guitar~ *though not really good at both of it*
Born and raise as a Malaysian and not really good at eating spicy foods, quite a shame and pity as most of the local delicacies are spicy *sobs*.

Okay, now just have sneak peek at my project.

*Tadah*

Ought to have a closer look at the portrait?
Here you go~~

Not really looks like me?
Pardon with me, I've tried my very best and this is the best piece I can produce for now.

PROJECT 1(B): PERSONAL LOGO

Here is my official logo: CONSTRUCT FUTURE!

As you all can see,the logo is a KEY.
Yes, the key represents ways or methods to construct a better future.

In order to create and leave a better future for our coming generations, we, the construction team must be creative and innovative in researching and finding new method for the construction field.
By doing this, we can create a better built environment.
And this will enable us to have a healthy and comfort environment, or home to live with.

Notice that the key is colored in ORANGE?
I chose orange as my main color because orange symbolize strength, or optimistic.
In difficult times, my team and I will work together to strive to SUCCESS! In tough times, the orange color of the logo will always remind me,keep motivated and look on the bright side of the life, things will get better and I can CONSTRUCT A BETTER BUILT ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS A BETTER FUTURE!
The key is pointed forward, and the meaning is simple, move forward to construct the FUTURE!

For another part, I believe everyone would find a tower, which is white in color in the logo right?
And this tower of mine will represent the strong, sturdy and perseverance in me. I will keep on to work hard to achieve the goal in my life, and for my construction team in the future, we will stay strong and work together to solve any problem and difficult we encounter.
The reason I chose white color for the tower?
Because the color white represents purity, honesty and integrity.
When we work with others, we should be honest, any cheating must not happen. This is because in construction, any small mistake that we neglect will result in great dangers. And the residents in the building we built will bear the consequences. I will not let this happen.
As such, we must have INTEGRITY. The greed in people will lead to cheating, bribery, and these bad traits are a very danger elements in construction. If they chose to earn an extra money and cut down the cost, they will cause great disaster to the construction team, the clients, the company, and the RESIDENTS.

So, Let;s CONSTRUCT A BETTER FUTURE TOGETHER!

And now, have a glance at my complete work of PERSONAL LOGO!

Sketches

Oh my gosh, I've never been good at sketching, or should I say I've never practice it.
And now here comes my project, with a lot of sketching work to do and this subject is 100% coursework, no tutorials nor exam, guess I'll just have to do a lot of practice until it gets better and better.

Oh my god, this is what I wanted to say because this definitely doesn't look like me!!!

And here comes round 2 and more rounds of sketching, still failing to sketch my portrait.

These faces is like criminals!

Well, at least something better come out.

For part b, I have to create my own LOGO. Well, at least I'm better at this than drawing some ugly portrait of mine.

Here are the concept in my mind. A tower which represented the strong and perseverance in me. A sturdy tower that will stand still, firm and steady no matter what happen. And it'll keep STANDING.

The slogan would be "CONSTRUCT FUTURE"
Yes, I would like to construct a better future, which will start from building and form a better built environment.

These are another trials before the official logo is produced..

Finally, the final piece is being PRODUCED!
The key represented method to open up ways to construct a better future with better built environment.
Isn't that a great concept? Well, at least I feel that way.

Sketching of a house, picture was taken from the internet.
Well, frankly speaking, this is the best piece of sketching of a house I've ever sketch. But don't compare it with others, I'm a first timer okay?

Perspective drawings of my project, the L-shaped chair.
This was done when I'm at my home, has done a few pieces before this came up.

This was done during the study trip to Langkawi.
This was my first time to this beautiful island.
For the sketching session, everyone was busy with sketching with the landmark --- the big eagle statue.
Well, I'm very clear of my capabilities. An eagle would turn into a cute sparrow if I was to sketch the statue.
So, I choose to draw the lights of that place.
